Job Brief:We are seeking a skilled
Database Administrator to join our team under the direction of the Database Architect Lead. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with enterprise databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and MongoDB, and will contribute to the design, implementation, optimization, and support of mission-critical database systems across Telecom and Digital Financial Services (DFS) environments. The role involves ensuring high availability, scalability, performance tuning, and data reliability, as well as participation in database unification, modernization, and migration projects, including cloud-based database deployments.
In today's AI-augmented technology landscape, this role also requires meaningful AI fluency — the ability to leverage AI-powered tools for query optimization, anomaly detection, automated reporting, and intelligent alerting — and a curiosity to continuously evolve practices as AI tooling for database operations matures.
VentureDive Overview:Founded in 2012 by veteran technology entrepreneurs from MIT and Stanford, VentureDive is the fastest-growing technology company in the region that develops and invests in products and solutions that simplify and improve the lives of people worldwide. We aspire to create a technology organization and an entrepreneurial ecosystem in the region that is recognized as second to none in the world.
Key ResponsibilitiesDatabase Administration & Operations- Install, configure, and maintain MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and MongoDB databases across development, staging, and production environments.
- Implement High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions using technologies such as MySQL InnoDB Cluster, Group Replication, Oracle Data Guard, PostgreSQL Patroni or EFM, and SQL Server Always On.
- Manage and support cloud-hosted databases such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database, Oracle Cloud Database, or Google Cloud SQL.
- Perform database backup and recovery, ensuring zero data loss and minimal downtime (RPO/RTO objectives).
- Optimize database performance using query tuning, indexing strategies, memory optimization, and workload balancing.
- Manage transactional and analytical workloads (OLTP and OLAP) efficiently across distributed and hybrid environments.
AI-Augmented Database Practices- Leverage AI-powered tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot or equivalent) to accelerate query writing, code review, and SQL optimization workflows.
- Use AI-assisted monitoring platforms (e.g., Datadog AI insights, OtterTune, or similar) to automate anomaly detection, predictive alerting, and proactive capacity planning.
- Apply LLM-based tools for auto-generating technical documentation, SOPs, and runbooks from existing database configurations and scripts.
- Evaluate and integrate emerging AI-driven database tuning and observability features within cloud platforms (AWS DevOps Guru for RDS, Azure AI integration).
- Participate in internal knowledge sharing on AI tooling adoption and contribute to team upskilling initiatives.
Collaboration, Migration & Compliance- Participate in database migrations and data unification projects (e.g., MSSQL → MySQL, MariaDB → MySQL).
- Work closely with application and infrastructure teams to design robust database architectures that meet business performance goals.
- Implement monitoring and alerting systems for proactive database health management.
- Ensure security, auditing, and compliance across all database platforms.
- Create technical documentation, SOPs, and architecture diagrams for database deployments.
Required Experience & QualificationsTechnical Skills- 2–6 years of experience in database administration.
- Strong expertise in MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Hands-on experience with HA/DR implementation, replication, and clustered environments.
- Experience managing cloud-based databases (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Oracle Cloud, or GCP SQL).
- Proficiency in SQL, performance tuning, and query optimization.
- Experience with Linux systems (Red Hat, Oracle Linux, CentOS, SUSE) and Windows Server for SQL Server environments.
- Familiarity with shell scripting, automation, and monitoring tools.
- Understanding of data modeling, partitioning, and storage optimization.
- Experience in data warehouse management and real-time replication (e.g., Oracle GoldenGate, SQL Server Replication).
- Demonstrated comfort using AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or equivalents) for SQL development and code review.
- Familiarity with AI-powered database observability tools or willingness to rapidly learn and adopt them.
- Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs — validating suggestions, catching hallucinations, and applying professional judgment before implementation.
- Basic understanding of how ML/AI models are applied to time-series metrics, query pattern analysis, or capacity forecasting is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications- Certifications in Oracle (OCP / Autonomous Database) and MySQL administration.
- Experience working with cloud database services (AWS, Azure, or Oracle Cloud).
- Exposure to Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, Ansible) for automated database provisioning.
- Familiarity with modern observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog) including AI-enhanced alerting.
- Experience with vector databases or AI/ML data pipelines is a strong plus.
Soft Skills- Strong problem-solving and analytical mindset, including comfort navigating AI tool outputs critically.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage priorities in fast-paced production environments.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and proactive in issue resolution.
- Curiosity and commitment to continuous learning, especially in evolving AI-augmented tooling landscapes.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Supplementary coursework or certifications in AI/ML tools, cloud platforms, or data engineering are a plus.
