Job Brief
VentureDive is seeking a visionary and experienced Data Science and Machine Learning Lead to spearhead our data initiatives and drive innovation through advanced analytics and machine learning. This role involves leading a talented team of data scientists and engineers, defining the strategic direction for data science within the company, and overseeing the development and deployment of cutting-edge ML models and data-driven solutions for both internal projects and client engagements. You will be instrumental in shaping how VentureDive leverages data to create value and competitive advantage.

Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy:

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of data scientists and machine learning engineers.
• Define and execute the data science and machine learning strategy aligned with VentureDive's business goals and client needs.
• Identify opportunities to apply AI/ML techniques to solve complex business problems and create innovative products/features.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI, machine learning, and data science, and champion their adoption where relevant.

Project Execution & Delivery:

• Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of data science projects, from ideation and data collection to model development, deployment, and monitoring.
• Ensure the delivery of robust, scalable, and effective machine learning models and data solutions.
• Collaborate closely with and coordinate project execution alongside product managers, engineers, designers, and client stakeholders to understand requirements, manage expectations, and deliver impactful results.
• Establish best practices for data science workflows, model validation, MLOps, and data governance.

Technical Expertise & Guidance:

• Provide technical leadership and guidance on complex data science problems, algorithm selection, and model architecture.
• Conduct code reviews, ensure model quality, and promote high standards of technical excellence within the team.
• Foster a culture of experimentation, data-driven decision-making, and continuous learning.

Communication & Collaboration:

• Effectively communicate complex technical concepts and findings to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership and clients.
• Build strong relationships with cross-functional teams and external partners.

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• Experience with GenAI frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar.
• Proven experience (typically 7+ years) in data science and machine learning, with a strong portfolio of delivered projects.
• Demonstrated experience (typically 2+ years) in leading and managing data science teams.
• Deep understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms (supervised, unsupervised, deep learning), and data mining techniques.
• Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data science, particularly Python, and associated libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Experience with MLOps practices and tools (e.g., MLflow, Kubeflow), including model versioning strategies.
• Proficiency with version control systems, particularly Git.
• Experience working in a consulting or client-facing role.
• Experience with at least one cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and their ML services.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with MLOps practices and tools (e.g., MLflow, Kubeflow).
• Experience developing LLM applications (e.g., Text-to-SQL, Agentic RAG systems) is a plus.
• Experience working in a consulting or client-facing role.
• Subject matter expert in specific domains like FinTech and Finance
